The book "Freedom and responsability: a search of harmony - human rights and dignity" by Kirill, patriarch of Moscow and all Russia, was first published in 2008, when its author was metropolitan of Smolensk and Kaliningrad and chairman of the Russian Orthodox Church's department for external church relations. It was composed of articles and speeches that he had given up to that time on the subject of human rights and dignity, as he and others sought to clarify and expound the Russian Orthodox Church's distinctive stance in this area, enidng with the approval by the bishop's council and publication in 2008 of the text "The Russian Orthodox Church's basic teaching on human dignity, freedom and rights".<br /> We hope this book will contribute to discussions of the relationship between freedom and responsability in human life.
